Finding the Future

Modern government is driven by doing good, whatever that is. Define ‘Good’ as a government objective. Think about it. Doing good is an open ended, unlimited proposition. Doing ‘good’ today, leads government to do more tomorrow, placing an ever increasing burden on society.

This is why our founders focused on the rights of the individual and local governance. Why they believed that a government that governs least, staying out of the way of man’s productive nature is best.

Previously I have suggested we can only change government, national and local,  by changing ourselves. Once we recover our historic ‘American values’ changing government will be easy.  Once we see virtue in ourselves we can find virtue in those who wish to lead us.

By acknowledging God in our lives and our country we recover our morality and our virtue.  Putting virtue in our lives allows us to renounce lust, greed, and selfishness. We then find our way to charity for others. Leading virtuous lives ourselves results in a virtuous nation.

These thoughts among many others can be found in the book “5,000 Year Leap” by W. Cleon Skousen. The relationship between virtue, honor, society and government are expounded at some length and in better fashion than I do here. Buy the book, read it, think about it.

When we all understand the moral and social structure that gave birth to our Republic and drove its success we will reclaim it. That is the first step on a journey that ultimately succeeds or fails with each of us every day.
