Our Welfare State is Over

Since 1960, government has changed radically. Then, 52 percent of federal spending went for defense, 26 percent for “payments to individuals”—the welfare state. By 2008, 61 percent went for “payments to individuals,” 21 percent for defense.

These payments to individuals are for welfare, food stamps, and that is not counting Social Security and Medicare. These later programs amounted to $1 trillion in FY2008.

Then there is health care…which is estimated to add another trillion. Social Security is said to be broken though politicians have avoided addressing that issue for decades, while they campaign on more programs and more benefits for more people. Education is another repair job waiting for funding. Here is a news bulletin….

WE CAN’T AFFORD IT!

Perhaps it is time to get back to traditional American verities. Your welfare is up to you, not Government.
